Wroclaw Poland

Visiting my buddy Michael in Wroclaw. This is his dads hometown. Michael has been studying in London and california the past years so I haven't seen him a lot. And since i travel a bit my self this was the only chance. So me, Marius and Preben(behind the camera) went to visit. Now we're walking the dog Blacky and checking out the old olympic stadium from the 1936 Berlin games when this was a part of Poland under german controll. I think that's how it was..

@Longstockings (haha, you have a funny nickname:))

I think English is more useful than German. The young Polish people speak English better than the older people (but it's probably normal, I think.) But I must confess that many Polish people speak English only a little (like me, unfortunately) or they don't speak English at all. But it depends on many factors (for example on the education or age).

By the way: Sorry for my English once more and for my terrible mistakes. Hope that you'll understand me. :)

@longstockings OMG seriously Forrest Gump? I had to laugh out loud if not even rofling, Hope you don't see Aksel as Forrest Forrest Gump. Nope, can not go to bed with that image....can you hear me laughing.....

@A. thank you for that image. Now I've got Forest Gump (circa running phase) on a bike in my head.

Never gotten around to visiting Poland myself. As a city girl, I tend to gravitate towards the bigger places (and I'm pretty selective about those, too.). But I adored Prague, so I'm sure I'd enjoy Poland, too. Hmmm... How easy is it to get by in English in Poland? Or is German more useful?

Aksel, is it your first visit in Poland?

P.S. The dog on this photo needs sunglasses...:)

oh, no biking, seriously? It;s not like am dissapointed, but I already had a picture of some kind of Iron Man in my mind, biking in heat and cold, through sun and rain, up and downhill, through central and eastern europe, oh damn... LOL

As I said before, Wroclaw is a nice city, nice pubs and all;-)

@winter fairy - well hello!
i only really start swearing when people are totally stupid (i swear at other drivers in the car fpr instance....haha). but it only gets bad, when people are unfair against others or me, i turn sort of protective over others being treated unfair and i can get pretty bad then...
with the sport - i always cheer and jump when Aksel had a good race, yes! but i never swear when he doesnt win. i think everyone deserves a win and the best gets it, that s the way it is. only for some you are very happy and others, well, little less. but i think they all deserve the hell of a lot of respect.

31. Jul 09:51 - winter fairy said:
@longstockings good morning to you sweetheart - yes I've missed U.....OMG I don't think Aksel would like to hear that although you have a good point winter in any case and fairy......OK ;)

about swearing: since I am really a great fan of Aksel as the skier I only swear (despite the fact that I am a woman!) if he doen't ski well and if he makes too many mistakes because of course I always like to see him on a podium !!!! Don't you?!

31. Jul 08:55 - christiane said:
i have no problem with swearing once in a while aaaaat all.

Missed me already, winter fairy? (by the way, that could so be the name for Aksel's gay alter ego... just saying... I just saw Brüno, okay?)

As for curse words... any language with few vowels is good. German, well, anything sounds angry in German.

Oh, and Aksel, hun, hop on that bike of yours and pedal North. I'll take you shopping, we seriously need get you some new shorts, okay? And is that just one sock you're wearing?? Nice shoes, by the way!

Is it just me or does that dog look like a cardboard cut-out? Especially around the head, and if you ignore the shadow...

I live in Wroclaw !! what a shame I didn't know Aksel will be here. About history- in 1936 it was german city and after 2. world war became polish again. so greetings to from Wroclaw to Aksel and all his fans:)

@A.
I'm living in a town about 114 km away from Cracow.

@christiane
Maybe this word like "kurwa" sounds fantastic (probably only for foreigner) but in Poland often swear lots of people - even very young girls. Too often and too much. It's awful. I hate this word "kurwa". I never swear because I think the girls (or women) should not swear.

haha, bye

and nike HAS to send Aksel some new shorts *LOL*

yeah, came to work later today (and it's not because I walked here wering those high heels and it took me so long ;-) , so the lunch break is later too ;-) I think I really have to go now, if I don;t wanna leave the office at midnight ;-) bye!

30. Jul 15:57 - christiane said:
lunchbreak at 4 in the afternoon??? hhmmmm

have to admit only having been at Bratislava airport, so i dont know Slovakia at all i m afraid. i remember the roads around the airport... i m a bit more into beaches or places like the rocky mountains or so... and definitely Britain, but that is because i have personal connections to there. get setimental everytime i see or hear something from there. very bad.

30. Jul 15:50 - A. said:
ok, the lunch break is now officially extended - I really like Slovakia, I used to spend part of my summers there while at highschool on some training camps (still can recognise every stone from some roads - from biking) and I still go there for at least one day every year (always bringing some cheese and Zlaty Bazant - almost the only beer I am able to drink ;-)

30. Jul 15:45 - christiane said:
yep. no surprise i know the words for "hunger" haha.
the first one, well i think i know this word in 8 or 9 languages, but everyone does... so nothin special. i better stick to English and German haha

30. Jul 15:42 - A. said:
I knew it! Ok, the first one is sooo bad , and unfortunately too popular and I am banning using it here!!;-)

The seond one is good though, very useful, you know good words Christiane;-)

30. Jul 15:36 - bla said:
kurva is also here in Slowakei a bad word :-)))

30. Jul 15:34 - christiane said:
no, only know the 2 most important words - kurva
and jestem glodny (or so? ) for "i am hungry"

30. Jul 15:31 - A. said:
just a little correction;-)- actually the name of the stadium is kind of misleading - the games were not actually held there as such - but the truth is it's and "interesting" place anyway because there are some "legends"/suspicions about what was the real purpose of building it (to hide the magazines under the stadium, for eg.) complicated story and I ordered myself the end of lunch break;-)

anyway, Christiane, do you speak some polish? It's a nice language, difficult, funny and weird, but nice, I love it ;-)

Hey, I thought Aksel is biking in Alps?! Wroclaw is far far away from the Alps oder?...
longstockings where are you? I miss your witty posts.....

30. Jul 15:10 - christiane said:
oh, and yes Aksel, that part was under german control as far as i know.

30. Jul 14:59 - christiane said:
@A. - yeah, of course it does, but in Polish (like Russian or so too...) it sounds much more serious i think, more angry if you know what i mean, because it is a harder language anyway, thats why its cool! part of my grandparents came from Poland, still have the sirname from there, so i find it cool anyway!! :)

30. Jul 14:56 - A. said:
justi, where are you, if not in Wroclaw? Christiane, I think generally swearing sounds better when you here it in some other language than your mothertongue, I don;t know what it is... :)

30. Jul 14:51 - A. said:
Christiane, yeah, old wounds -apparently some of my abilities for crazy posting are still here, after couple of days, ;-)

and yes, Poland is an interesting country with a very interesting history, and great landscapes and food, but also lots of paradoxes and absurds of everyday life -definitely not boring and intriguing. and yes, a lot of people don't get it so much, but it's really worth visiting. you can have the craziest adventures here, I can be your guide, LOL

30. Jul 14:50 - christiane said:
@justi - yeah, heard about a place called Norway too, apparently a country with quite good skiers haha ;) havent been there yet. must be extremely beautiful though.
worked with a guy from Poland once, it was great when he started swearing in his mothertongue, sounded fantastic!

30. Jul 14:42 - justi said:
@christiane
I agree you. But every country has something interesting. (I'd like to go to Norway but not only...)

It's a pity that I don't live in Wroclaw...;)

30. Jul 14:29 - christiane said:
@A. you just had to scratch open old wounds didnt you??!!! haha

Poland is definitely a very intersting country i think, unfortunately very underestimated by most people.

the dog looks like he needs a bit of walking haha

30. Jul 14:25 - A. said:
oh, I had to comment this post, how couldn't I ! it's a nice city. I'd say the old olympic stadium does not really show that ;-), but the centre is just very nice. Of course, it is not nearly as cool as Cracow (guess why I am writing this, LOL), but still a nice city. From what I've heard, lipstick is not obligatory there;-)
