Won the downhill today*Prizegiving after todays downhill was held at a cruise ship in Narvik harbour. It was a fun change of atmosphare from what we're used to. The cruise company is famous for their cruises in the fjords on the west coast and the north of norway. The best part was that the captain of the ship gave me a free cruise when i have time to join them.

@ the whole spam comments thing(I wasn't gonna get in this war about comments) yeah it is a little frustrating when every other comment is off topic, but they are funny as hell. As long as it's cool with Aksel why should we even complain about it. Unless your trying to bring it to his attention that it bothers you. If people start complaining about stuff don't you think that he might stop sharing with us? Or at least take the comment section off? I don't want that to happen & I'm sure none of you do either. So why don't we just chill out & get along like it used to be & if the spam comments bother him I'm sure he will let us know about it.

There are many people on here who's first experience of a BLOG is Aksel's. I include myself in that group. I had no idea what the protocol was but I did notice that people were chatting to each other and I thought that was great.

I will hold my hand up and say I have been guilty of 'chatting' because:-

new to this site there were lots of people talking about interviews with Aksel, other races etc that many people hadn't seen so people were sharing where they could get to see this stuff....hence the many links that have been passed around.

None of this was meant to upset or annoy anyone, just to show that we are ALL huge fans of Aksel.!!! We all admire him as a hugely successful athlete and a great human being....and of course we enjoy his sense of humour and look forward to seeing his comments.

The last thing we want is to stop him reading or leaving messages!!

We are all here for the same reason!

More and more people have jumped on the bandwaggon, and it's normal that everything is a little out of hand. Aksel conjured up such things with his own personality but also with feeding the blog. I hope he enjoys as much as all of the guys who join in the blog.
Each party has an end, and then it is again more quiet and on-topic. As long as the party takes just skip what doesn't interest you (works well for me).
I don't think that a forum would be a good idea. If you run a forum someone has to monitor. Otherwise there could be legal impact.

When you go quickly through the comments just checking the names you can see that it is from maybe 30-40 people cause some of them commented for 100 times!

I do agree it's really busy in here though. He does have a facebook page but it seems people are less inhited on this blog due to posting annonymous ;) No inhibitions or judgements based on appearance or profile. People can speak their minds regardless of their sex, age, etc (it's an even playing field) in some ways it's endearing because it's driven by Aksel's personality.
Sorry for getting off topic. Just some thoughts regarding the overload issue.

Coverage of the Paralympics is close to non existing on TV here either. I think it's a shame. Those people are athletes too and deserve at least the same amount of attention. It winds me up! Luckily you can find some info on the internet.

Don't know where we can get to see the races, they don't say much about the nationals on any of the norwegian channels. Maybe on nrk nordnytt (news especially made for the northern part of the country), but I'm not sure. SG tomorrow, GS on sunday, and slalom on monday, which is the final day.

A bit surprised to see Kjetil slip down to fourth. He's definitely strongest in the GS, but has placed no worse than 11 in his WC super-combis. But a great finish for Lysdahl - he's a younger skier who has been on the Europa Cup circuit and has yet to make an appearance in a World Cup. Must be a great feeling to be on the podium with the 'big guys'.

Not sure why only the downhills and SGs are FIS - my guess is that either the SL/GS courses don't meet all the standards to qualitfy for FIS points status or that there aren't enough SL./GS competitors at the higher levels to merit an FIS race. But I could be totally wrong...

Meanwhile, I am very curious to see what semblance of a NCs the US will be able to pull off on Whiteface - it's 41F at the summit right now and tomorrow's forecast is for a high of 54F.

It reminds me, that I have already booked last October a trip to the Norvegian Fjords. What a coincidence! We will travel 9 days by bus, ferries, etc.

May be I see your cruise ship in the Geiranger Fjord or somewhere nearby. My thoughts will be with you, because I will not carry a laptop with me.

Life is wunderful, especially going on a trip and seeing the world is one of the best things we can do.

However, it would appear - no surprise - that they don't sell each year's WC styles until after the WC season is done. (I assume they do this so that the team are the only folks to have the stuff during the season - better for publicity and for security). You can find a list of Phenix dealers on the Phenix website.

@Kelly - when I visited Norway I was the youngest on the trip by 30 years!!!!!!! It was the first trip I did on my own so I picked an organised trip which turned out to be all retired couples but they were great fun!!! I set the ladies the task of trying to find me a husband by the end of the week which was hilarious!!! And Norway was stunning.....

@Sharon - you're right about cruises!! I travelled from Helsinki to St Petersburg and I just remember the food on the ship, especially the caviar!!!!!

Just teasing I know this blog spans the globe. I agree with all that this is by far the nicest group on here. I mean take a look at YouTube. The comments are outrageous. Took in Puerto Rico, St. Kitts, Dominica, Grenada, Caracao, Arruba, just to name some of the islands. Went on excursions on most of the islands , from river tubing, to snorkeling with the turtles, swimming with dolphins, champagne and lobster BBQ (HUGE Lobsters to die for) ,catamaraning, zip lining over the canopy and through the jungle. They treat you like a king or queen on the ship and all you do is ask for something and they will get it for you . You have to appreciate the workers though, they literally work their butts off. Not sure what kind of of cruise or excursions would be on a ship in your part of the world but I'm sure that it's amazing. I've also heard the phrase, "once you take a cruise...you'll never want to vacation any other way", you'll want to do another and another. It's so beautiful where you are. "You're one lucky guy".
