Sponsors

Posted on 04. March 2010 15:11 - 88 comments

For any new  ”followers” on my website, I didn’t get a bunch of new sponsors because I did well at Olympics. This is my team, the companies I work with, but IOC and Norway’s Olympic Committee made me remove the once that were in the same business as any of their sponsors. I could keep a logo like Acer, cause they work with IOC. But a company like Red Bull was forbidden, as Coca Cola sponsor Olympics. Anyways, now they’re all up here again, the whole team. You can click on SPONSORS to find out more about each company and why I wanted to work with them.

I will see what I can do about grabbing video from the NBC site and putting it on YouTube or some other way. I will not break any copyright laws though. I want everyone to see this amazing man in action!!!

Thanks for posting the link! -I'd no idea they showed it in Canada. Fascinating - in the "race" on the film, Aksel was .3 seconds faster than Erik Guay. The difference at the Olympic downhill - 0.26 sec. Could easily be just chance, but still... Unfortunately, I think the CBC version is cut down, as it doesn't include any of the ski-jumping and the NHK website indicates that the series originally had 3 x 50 min episodes. Maybe they will release it on DVD at some point...

I must find THE, or a new (?), CAPITAL-letters-girl is back. Is that YOU babe with a new witty pseudonym? Kinda funny to see how these dearies strive for attention.
Love it anyway! ;p)

Aksel, solid training rankings. You have the makings for promising races! :p)

Thanks for the suggestions...I stumbled onto the NBC site and like you say you can't see the videos!! ...Shame...I will do some digging on the interent and hopefully I will come across it.

What time is the race? Don't want to miss it!

I would also like to see the progamme that was made about the 'miracle body' , is that on the interent??

I think this blog and the interent in generel is great how it brings people together who have similar interests. It's nice to hear different views and opinions!!

@ Kelly, thanks for the sweet reply.

I understand why some people say what they do about Bode, but I'm a little protective of him as he's why I started to bother watching the world cup. I used to live in Switzerland where everyone goes crazy for it and I just couldn't understand why anyone would want to watch other people ski one at a time down a slope. I thought why not just go out and ski, what's the point? Then I watched Bode ski and got it completely. I'm still dreading the day he quits.

A great pic with your medals :))

@Kelly, none of the NBC coverage is available outwith the US. They did sell the rights, but only to select cable companies within the US. I wouldn't have traded the CTV coverage for NBC (we get both here in Ontario), but I do occasionally want to see clips or stories that CTV didn't cover. I'll just have to hope they keep them online until I next travel to the US.

I would also hesitate to characterise any skier (or other athlete) on what you see/hear in the press and second hand gossip. You'd be amazed how quickly stories get distorted and how comments get taken out of context. Every athlete has their own approach to competition, their own motivations and their own personality - and we all have our bad moments. We just don't see our bad days splattered across the worldwide press! I'm quite happy to cheer for both Bode and Aksel, and it was great to see them both do so well in Whistler.

@Aksel - the Aftenposten story today seemed to suggest that whatever illness plagued you before the Olympics was trying to make a comeback. Hope you are feeling better now, and have a chance to really relax after the World Cup finals. As for the -15c weather - I'm jealous since all our snow is fast melting off. Not likely to be any more skiing for me this year :o(

05. Mar 16:16 - Kelly said:
@ boo I apologize... you're right. I shouldn't have mentioned Bode on this forum. However, I do live in Colorado and I do ski all the same sites as the U.S. ski team... I hear things. And in the context I was referring... who would be a more attractive guy to date, Miller or Svindal? It'd be Aksel (by a long shot).

@ Ikk and Liz Hate that you aren't able to watch NBC highlights. I thought they did a really good job too on the human interest stories of athletes outside the U.S. It looks like they sold the rights to 14 cable and satellite companies so you might want to check with your online provider.

Did anyone ever find a link to Miracle Body?

Yes, thanks, I survived. My boss is quite exaggerated and sometimes jammed, I think he would need a treatment once like "Olympic prep" (see Aksel's Blog "Physio")

Oh, that reminds me, last weekend I was in a Wellness Weekend. I lay there and then came the massage therapist and then turned my head to one side (as Aksel's Video) and I said, oh no, no, what are you doing, stop it !!!! Oh god, in my mind I heard the creaking of my bones! The masseur then stopped, however, and laughed when I told him why I was afraid haha and then made a nice hand massage (yes, finally I don't want to win any Olympic medal).

Aksel, you see what you can have your blog entries for an impact on our lives, haha!

The karma aspect (never heart of computer karma, I'm a bit oldfashioned and a computer ignorant person) ... but that could be a spark of the sensitive and reflective (but even the ironic and the funster) Aksel. Well, you definitely have had better inputs in former times. Mind out, money and success, are such tempting things and the most cling to those, and some, uncritical advocates, approve of that, as you can read out for example in some comments.
Just keep your heart still open, be aware of the beautiness of the world, then everything... with your Karma (in the Buddhist sense) and your being in this life in its different aspects... is all right. I'm sure, you know that! ;-))

Kjetil? come out and play. What?s the good word?

To all the beautiful women over in Oslo (great city!) and surroundings, I hope you are treating these guys right? you have no idea what we?re working with on this side of the Atlantic. Oh wait, you?ve heard of Bode-with-a-bad-attitude, right? Prime example.

both races on eurosport europlayer on the internet. Found this during olympics due to BBC lack of coverage as I do not have satellite or cable. It costs £34 for one year subscription and covers both europsort 1 and 2.

I agree the BBC coverage of olympics was very bad. While i think it was partly their lack o f interest, I think it was the same for most european countries - NBC where to blame - they hijacked the games and held the eurpoean networks to ransom. On top of that NBC comeptition video cannot be downloaded outside north america . I thought the olympic ideal was a celebration of sport for everycountry to enjoy..

Hva om det var en av søstrene Løseth, eller frk Mancuso, som skulle åpnet et nytt alpinanlegg - hadde det da vært greit om du eller feks mr Miller tok dere en prøvekjøring først?

Unfortunately, I think the only televised coverage in the UK is the SkiSunday or whatever they call that show now. And not that it shows much competition anyway. You might try seeing if the NBC Universal sports skiing online videos work for you or see if Eurosport has any online coverage. I think there must have been some live coverage online or on TV a few years back because I have faint memories of getting out of bed very early to watch a skiing event live.

Winter sports coverage is dismal in the UK. Which is why I'm not shocked that the UK Ski/Snowboard national organization went bankrupt - even if the country has great winter athletes (which it does, particularly in skeleton, skating and sometimes skiing), no one has a clue that they exist outside of the Olympics.

Good luck in the training run tomorrow Aksel! Sounds like the conditions are pretty good - no death cookies on the course!

@Aksel: The medals look great and are unique in that each one is embossed with a piece of a large Aboriginal Orca drawing. Silly question but do any of your medals "fit" each other like the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle would? I am thinking the designs are random. Anyways, congrats again on achieving that dream.

@Kate: you're absolutely right, I had completely forgotten about the need to tape the logo. We were sponsored by Nike, and some of the logos were too big (mostly on our socks) so we had to tape them up during matches. Of course, when you're jumping around and sweating up a storm on a volleyball court, sometimes the tape just doesn't stay on. (even WITH the Tuff Skin!)

04. Mar 19:46 - Mira said:
You didn't get a bunch of new sponsors, because you did well at Olympics (not just well, you could realised also through our post s that you did more than excellent job), maybe you will get any new now;)))

04. Mar 19:30 - Kate said:
I can appreciate the difficulty in trying to juggle all the sponsorship rules. At the Grand Prix skating event where I volunteered last fall, they had to carefully cover up every non-official ad in the arena, and then undo the whole process four days later. And then it turned out that the company providing the water wasn't the official water sponsor, so they had to go through and tear off every label on every bottle of water. I pity the people that had to go through thousands of bottles of water... But I know we all appreciated the sponsors because they made it possible not only to hold the event, but to provide food, water etc. not only for the athletes, but for the volunteers and officials.

I remember having to deal with the NCAA rules back when I fenced at college. Most fencers tend to wear Adidas fencing socks because Adidas is the manufacturer of fencing gear and I think sponsors the US team and many European teams. But at the NCAA Championships, it was decided that the Adidas stripes on the sides of socks were a logo and bigger than permitted. So like the Norwegian team before the Olympics, everyone had to put tape over the stripes (or buy new plain white socks). Our team didn't have much in the way of sponsorships back then, though were a 'Nike school', but now the team gets free fencing shoes via Nike. Yay Nike!

Yep, they do a similar thing here in the US during the NCAA tournament (at least for volleyball), where we'd have to cover up our sponsors logos & take down their banners. It even went so far as the NCAA putting down a new Sport Court flooring system during home matches, since we had sponsor logos permanently etched on our own Sport Court. Crazy!

It'd be great if maybe you and your tech could do an instructional video and place it on youtube sometime (there are a few posted already from various ski shop operators but they contradict each other).
