Not feeling great

Posted on 28. December 2009 11:23 - 95 comments

Not feeling great*Didnt feel very good yesterday and went straight to bed for 5 hours of sleep after the downhill run. Not feeling too good today either I have to spend the day in bed drinking warm tea and saving up energy for tomorrow. We have eurosport in the hotel, so i'll be watching a lot of sports today. Just saw the first rum from the womens gs in Lienz.

@Muckl The thing is, that extreme or high performance sports are drugs like any other, that throw you in a higher mood. Dangerous (if life is like that?!). But normally these others (alcohol, cigarettes, koks, ecstasy and many more) don't have such an acceptance in society. Well, these crazy sportsmen and -women have. That's a special issue: The man in the street could not imagine to do such dangerous and superhuman things like these athletes. But they have their super 'heroes' to adore, who shows, what mankind could make possible with enough ambitous effort and courage (or rather high spirits, sometimes). The athletes on the other side get (need) their kicks from speed, be in border area, get attention, acknowledgement of their capacity and much else (especially if they don't feel well or not so great...) - I would say, it's a kind of addiction, isn't it? But it is, hurray hurray, in my consideration a real win-win-situation!

The plain truth or nearly a fact is, that the most persons have (need!) one addiction or two or more? Why not, let's have fun, and celebrate every day in the highest mood, yeah!!! Don't worry be happy and please just carry on doing all these crazy things gals and guys. ;p)

@ Pipi and Muskl: Interesting discussion :) I think that how illness and injuries affect your body and mind is highly individual. From my point of view, I`m more impressed about athletes who don`t race rather than athletes who don`t care about the medical aspect and race even though they shouldn`t (mentally, I think it`s very hard to let a race pass at World Cup level). Hopefully, the athlete himself and the team medical staff evaluate the medical aspect of racing in each case of illness or injury, which means that the athlete is racing in proper condition. In my opinion, the team medical staff is responsible of the athlete`s health - not only in short term, but also in the long term. However, life is dangerous anyway, that is true ? and of course, no pain no brain! :)

@ A: Oh, what a bad guy! I hope for God`s sake she left the party with someone else :)

First of all: do you still have fever? Anyway great run! Finally: hope you can take some days off, get well and relax. Positive aspect of your trip back to Oslo; if your luggage is still in Milano (or maybe it is already on the way back to Norway), you do not have to take care about it ;-) just kidding: hope your trip is not so exhausting again.

@pipi: good question but it is not that easy to answer. In my opinion: as an athlete you wanna win or at least you try to win (anything else does not make sense if you are a professional one). I mean, it does not matter whether someone is ill or not. Of course, the risk to get injured is higher if you are not in a good condition but they always risk their life/health at the race.
?short? Story: I am in a group of people who are running marathons, half marathons and doing triathlons. One of them told me once that he always ?attacks?, he does not care about his physical condition afterwards (even if he has to vomit, horrible cramp, etc. it does not matter). It is really stupid but if you wanna be fast you have to risk something. Andrea Mayr ran the Vienna city marathon this year while she had a lot of leg injuries, I do not want to know the pains she must have had, most astonishing: she won! I do not want to compare running with skiing but I think that the basic attitude of each athlete is pretty much the same. (I agree with you: life is dangerous anyway)

@A: oh that is not good, oh no; even the guy did not notice it, yeah, ouch.

29. Dec 15:41 - Andie said:
@A. You're right, that wasn't much fun to watch. We also watched it at work (*cough cough*), but well yeah...definitely not that much fun.

We actually also talked about Bode's stunt on that course...that was during the World Championships, no? Crazy dude. LOL

Yay for Jerman, though...and the Swiss guys, of course. ;-) And once fully recovered, I am sure Aksel will do better again, too. Plenty of opportunities next year. :)

Anyway, signing off soon...not too much action around the office so I guess my time could be better spent... ;-) So long.

Something special to discuss for you:
A friend currently asked me, if an athlete can be a good example, if he or she makes a race in case of illness or injury? What do you think?
I'm ambivalent. It impressed me on the one side (like the most of the girlies ;p)), because these athletes show the toughness of their personality, but on the other side these actions could endangered their health (in the long term, in worst case a burden for the family!)

Or should we think, no risk no fun? Life is dangerous anyway!

29. Dec 13:16 - A. (still the same, wondering if her posts are not to personal and intending to stop that) said:
well, it was not enjoyable as I thought, I don't know, it looked not so fun as in previous years and not as fun as it looked when Bode skied it on one ski;-) . So far my fav downhill of this season beauty-wise will still be Val Gardena.
It's nice to see someone happy with their win, though.

don't worry Aksel, it is just one race, that happens. reset and move on. All will be good!

Cheer-up: anecdote vol_2: I once attended a new year's eve party when one girl locked herself accidentally in a bathroom just before midnight and noone realised that she was absent when people tried to affect time by counting the seconds to 12;-) She came back like half an hour ago, not happy. Especially not happy about the guy who came there with her and did not notice she was absent for the midnight. Ouch. LOL

btw how tough is Lindsey to ski after yesterday's crash and managing to qualify for the 2nd run, wow!

u might find some cool games:))
Agree with some of the others here: ur room seemed pretty depressing and kind a 'cold'..
How about Lufthansa? Arent they obliged to bring ur bag to ur final destination on ur bookings, then get it transported to ur hotel? w/o charges.
BTW: Being no 9 on yesterday s training was amazingly GREAT, Aksel!!!
U got the power, but right now u really need to charge and focus on getting in ship shape. Clear ur mind and dont stress, will you?
All the best from Bambi who s big time envious on Santa's car :)

LOL poor you!

With all due respect to great things that Italy can offer, the time flows differently there. we can start betting if the bag will reach Bormio in 2009 or in 2010;-) The worst part is that you cannot even be angry in Italy - that at least happens to me. The time does not exist first, it causes all the troubles, but the minute you want to say something or be a little angry you are given the world's best tiramisu or any other food, or coffee and it makes you forget about everything. La dolce vita. ;-)

And yeah, I think I will be ready for the race tomorrow!

mmh, poor guy; great pic, NO: lying alone in bed (I am pretty sure that there are a lot of girls who want to be your nurse), feeling not good and yeah, as LeSkA mentioned, the room does not look that cosy. But isn t it fun to read all the great entries?

Aksel, you really need fresh clothes! Even if you have to steel a shirt from Kjetil (or is he already avoiding you? gosh, hopefully not), because if you stink like monkey feet (in german: wie ein Iltis stinken; Iltis=polecat, but they are really cute, ok aside from the odour) you cannot feel well.
In the meanwhile you could take one or two or three of your lovely friends, the vitamin bears and play with them. Btw: do they really like you? cuz I do not think so: you always eat brothers and sisters of them. They are crying for sure all the time: ?Noooo, Aksel is coming back, oh no, no, no, do not eat me, take my little pink brother, he tastes much better than me? (poor vitamin bear, they do not have a long life, tztztz).

I could give you some advice to feel better, but believe me, I do not want to post it, even I do not want to think about it (and it is not dealing with ***).

@A_vol.1: can imagine that it was an awful time, but in general: dating someone can be really strange sometimes (smirk)

@Christiane: would share some xmas experiences but this year was not good at all but I can tell you a few things (not everything because it would go beyond the scope of the blog) what had happened in the last years on Christmas Eve (it is similar to Chevy Chase experiences which reminds him every year that Christmas is not working in that way it was supposed to). One year our kitchen was completely filled with water cuz of a broken tube of the dishwasher. Another year our front door got broken because of a storm, almost forgot the broken window in my room. Oh yes and number 1, which is my favourite one: it was raining in my sisters flat (her flat is a part of my mums house) because of a broken toilet in the second floor of our house? haha, but do not worry, everything is repaired. Yeah, that is fun, especially on Christmas Eve. But hey, it is not getting bored with me.

the mad skiers ... i know! used to work in Kitzbühel for a while and alsways had to smile sadly about them hillarious ones who thought they could just throw themselves down the streif no probs and were super proud about it at the bar the vening before... the next day we could have theoretically given their room away to someone else, because surprisingly they had their meals in hospital usually, haha. sad, but tru.

Ah, you should get some of the homemade snaps I`m being offered every day after dinner time. I promise, it clears up your air ways completely :)

@ Christiane: Nice questions - it`s time to share some of our Christmas experiences as well. I have to admit that I`m very active or totally exhausted these days. In the exhausted moment, I`m lying in horizontal position reading "Politi og røver", asking my dear family members to switch the channel, make me a cup of coffee, give me a Christmas cookie, send me a pillow or play some music. Unfortunately, my dear family is quite strict, so I have to do almost everything myself, hehe :) In the active moment - which is more often, almost the entire day - I`m ski patrolling on the slopes. I love it, even though it`s sad that some skiers spoil their whole skiing holiday because of twisted knees or broken bones.

However, we also experience a lot of funny situations. One day we were working in a closed skiing area when two skiers suddenly appeared. One of my colleges said: "Hey, how many obstacles did you guys pass to come here?" Then the first skier said "Oh well, no one as far as I could see..." Then the second skier stopped and said: "Dad, I told you that this is a closed area when we passed the first fence". Hehe, fortunately the kids are telling you the truth :)

Aksel, I wish you the best for tomorrow!

1) whisky: yeah, lets get the boy drunk before Bormio downhill!;-) seriously: it can help, but on the other hand: can he handle this without damage to the sense of balance for tomorrow? LOL

2) Thanks for asking how I am in the previous post, I am flaterred;-) I am fine, but I am fine most of the time, so basically nothing new;-) nothing revolutionary happened last days that would make me feel more than fine. ;-) I did not have too much to eat (ok, I had but I exercised a lot so no damage was done;-) Now I am having a coffee break hoping that the calm week at work that I planned would indeed be calm;-) Started reading Richard Hammond's book, so if I read any fun car stories from there, I shall share;-)

@Muckl: new year's eve parties anecdote's, vol. 1: during a new year's eve trip I accidentally set up a date for a guy I really liked (not to say it was a few years long history of liking someone, so to say;-) and some other girl. oh oh oh and the best weapon: Alcohol!!!!
Hot whisky: 4 cl good old Jameson, 1/8 l hot water, slice of lemon, cloves and a bit of sugar. dat ll kill all dem viruses ;)

now i m running out of wisdom.... of course we could try and convince Kjetil to massage your feet, make tea and knit wooly socks for you and stuff - all that in 1 hour of course AND in his jacket! - but somehow i think that could be some of a challenge. hm. He would have to take of his super cool disco rocking jacket...

Hope things will get better until tomorrow. Seems like a big guy like you needs tons of vitamin bears to stay healthy XD

Is Kjetil on the run to get you your bag back? I think he'd do that for his own health ;-)

Aw. I hope you feel better tomorrow.
But staying in bed all day drinking hot tea is not too bad from my point of view. I'm spending the day cleaning a bowling alley...
Must have been nuts when I volunteered fot this.
Anyway. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you as always. :)

That doesn't sound good, and it looks like all the travelling back and forth has taken its toll...you poor thing. So stay tucked in, stay warm, rest up + hopefully, you'll be feeling better again tomorrow!

On the bright side: You don't need clean clothes to hang around in your hotel room all day long, which gives Lufthansa another few hours to deliver your bag... ;-)

Get better soon.
