Last week of hard workout

Posted on 29. September 2009 18:30 - 68 comments

We’ve training every day together this week. Me and Kjetil from the World-Cup team + some juniors and Europa-Cup guys. Three sessions every day from early morning till afternoon. This probably and hopefully the last full week of workout before the season starts. We wanna ski! The pic is from todays coordination training. Compared to the some of the pros working out here we look terrible. But I guess so would they in on the mountain.

Sad to hear about both Sandell and Gut getting injured. Hope they’ll be back fast. Maybe we could use some of Longstockings comments to make us laugh…

always on the move the last week, unhappily no time to participate... now I notice, a lot of things have happened the last days - good and bad. Well, I'm really sad about the injuries of the swiss team skiers. Heard this week in Tirol local news also Sandell had a terrible fall at pitz glacier with heavy injuries... that's horrible!
@ Aksel 1) happy belated birthday to your dad's 60th. It seems to be the year of the most 'round' /decadal birthdays I've ever realized - well, perhaps I had mine and some of my best friends. The X9-age-groups 49, 59, 69... good years ;-)
2) "Last week of hard workout"!? Do you scheduled a 'tapering' period in your training program for the next weeks? What kind of workout is planned for the last 3 weeks?
Hey, don't get out of patience! :-))

I've heard of it. As far as I know, he got injured during a training in august but was very optimistic to be back in december. I just read through an article, though in which he announced that he doesn't feel strong enough to do so and won't even make it up to olympic games.
Good luck, Peter...

You are all sweeties!!! You really are!:-)))))
Oh, and hindquarters(!), aerofoil (really?!) and fanny are duely noted!

Aksel I hope you find some snow ;-))

Have a great weekend everyone!!

@Milla, like Christiane, I also fell of a horse (a big one) and hit my fanny (jepp another one?) and it hurt like hell even if I didn?t break anything, so I can imagine some of the pain you?re in? Poor gal, hope it will be better soon!
The actual reason I decided to post is that I want to thank you all for making my boring working days a lot more fun. Every time I need to be cheered up I just go to this blog and read all of your hilarious comments. It?s the perfect remedy :)
And thank you Aksel for making this possible! Good luck this season

girl with pain in the aerofoil... hope you re gettin better!!! i fell off a horse once landing on my ass, not very nice. tryin to stand up in elegance again didnt help anymore. plus the horse looked at me like " whaaaa???"
Longstockings happily back (that's very good :) !)
An anonymous writer!!!!!!!!! we need names here, it is less fun with "-" and "nonames"

supposedly we could get some snow in the austrian mountains now. it's pissing down rain in the cities anyway... need some for Sölden!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

02. Oct 09:21 - Longstockings said:
@Aksel: glad to be back. ;)

@Milla: re: eating soup while horizontal. Have you thought about using a straw? And hope your hindquarters (ha! one more!) feel better soon.

@Mimia: Do I know you? 'Cause if I know you then it's highly likely that you know me. Most of my friends know me. Not all of them will admit to it in public, but they do.

Oh, and I want a helmet that says "I love Aksel"! Then I'm going to wear it together with my Backstreet Boys t-shirt and my glittery Spice Girls purse to the birthday party tomorrow. I'll be so pretty!

02. Oct 09:12 - Tony said:
@ Milla: Hehe, that`s true - it doesn`t matter if the pain killers are pills or pieces of chocolate, but be aware that the chocolate may just have short term effect :)Pain - body - mind :)

Have a nice day!

@ Mimia - what happend to him? That's horrible, and the season hasn't even started yet!

I guess we should all wish you Aksel, aside from success, good luck for the season!!!

01. Oct 23:13 - Mimia said:
What the hell is going on with you alpine people? Didier Defago the next "victim". Even though obviously his injury is pretty much nothing compared to Sandell (which is also quite a good beer (at least for Finnish standarrds, by the way))

PS. Training this week has been very tough. Been lazy on the internet and the blogging... Leaving for travels soon. Hopefully we get some snow somewhere... Will keep you updated

01. Oct 22:52 - Jules said:
@ Milla: It was at the world championships in Aare 2007. She was nominated unexpectedly and she was a big fan of Aksel. So she wrote in big fat letters "I love Aksel" on her helmet ;-) In her defense I have to say that she was still a teenager... Sorry, Gina!

01. Oct 22:21 - Milla said:
@Tony - Thanks! I do feel a little better. I try to lie down as much as possible and only sit or walk (like a penguin!) when necessary. You should try eating soup while lieing down (go on, I dare you;))) Some of my friends brought me flowers and chocolate earlier (cuteies!!) and I immediately felt better. See, I'm not that complicated - just hand me a piece of chocolate and I'm fine! :-)))

@Jules - I haven't heard the Gina Stechert story!! Please, do tell!!!

@Mimia - Welcome!! :-))

01. Oct 22:15 - Mimia said:

@I-ski-like-a-girl, I totally agree with you , Maria is the best, she pulled us out of our misery... Haha, I've heard about the Gina Stechert story, that is so cute! She must be really embarrased, she'll probably hear that story until she retires ;-)

Well, I am looking forward to the word championships in Garmisch and I'm sure that the Germans are just saving their talent and strength to really stike there...

01. Oct 22:05 - Mimia said:
I've been secretely reading these comments for a while (and I've already started feeling slightly voyeuristic- which is why I finally decided to join you guys to relieve my conscience a little)
So here we go:
@Longstockings: You kinda scare me since you very very very (=very³) much remind me of a girl I got to know to in Finland, and from what I can tell from what you wrote in several entries before you seem to be from FInland too (the "speaking Norwegian" thing amongst others, well actally it's just some kind of onomapoetica (spelling?), isn't it?). WWWEEEIIIRRDDD (I mean the reminding thing, not the other part, beacuse you two seem to have a lot in common- from what I can tell)
@Jules: "Funny German skiers"?????? Who are you talking about? Seriously!
@*I-ski-like-a-girl*: I only had three chocolate eggs and already have Urobe and the singing guy whose name I always happen to forget (Ulme?), isn't that 'ne großartige Quote? But, to be honest, I think they look quite ugly.
And in order not be too much off -topic: Pros working out there? Like coordination training pros? What the heck would that be?

01. Oct 20:39 - *I-ski-like-a-girl* said:
Hey Jules,

Our female skiers are brilliant. I would even say, sorry Sweet girl, quality before quantity;-) Especially Maria Riesch is amazing. Did you see her slalom races. Three victories in a row and it looks so easy and dynamic. At the World Championships in Val d'Isère the pressure was really high but she managed to cope with it and won. Awesome. And young Gina Stechert (Aksel should know her from the Word Championships in Are, hihi) does a fantastic job, too. She's a crazy girl and it's extremely funny to hang around with her. Oh and there's Katrin H., never won a world cup before but then GS in France. CRAZY!
Our male skiers...well, there's Dominik. A very nice guy but unfortunately got injured last season after a very good result in Levi. But for him I'll always keep my fingers crossed...

For sure I have lots of respect cause I'd never do it (probably because I ski like a girl ;-)) but all I wanna say is that sometimes I just can't stand their overestimated behaviour. And SOME of 'em do have it.

01. Oct 20:22 - noname said:
@ Jules: I think you are right! :)
Already this season can be totally different! You never know ;)

And Maria Riesch is one of my favorite ladies !

01. Oct 20:15 - Jules said:
@ I-ski-like-a-girl & SweetGirl:
I have to jump in now and patriotically defend our probably not always successful but really cool and funny German skiers... we always had good skiers and it is only a question of time... so don't underestimate us ... who would have thought 2 years ago that Maria Riesch would dominate the slalom like she did last season?! I believe in Neureuther & Co...

I am wondering - is this optimism or just wishful thinking of me? ;-)

Well, I'm happy that the Austrian monopole cracked :)
A multi national race is much more fun to watch!
And finally the austrian media realizes that there are racers from other nations to talk about as well :D At least they do sometimes when they stop moaning about the "reduced" success of the austrians ;)

@Sweet Girl: Ah I see, I completely forgot about Michi Walchhofer. Indeed he won the downhill world cup. In the past few years I had to recognize, though that the austrian monopole in occuping place 1-9 has completely gone . Even though Austria is still the best skiing nation in the world, their everlasting success kinda "crumbles" and other nations catch up. Well yeah you're right, except for the Germans...I know some of the german skiers, most of 'em Eurocup skiers. We'll see what the future will bring, but at the moment they all suffer from very grave overestimation hehe

Whatever. I#ve had a very successful day in collecting more Wicky-figures ...And I had only 12 chocolate eggs ...

Har du tenkt deg på Fri Flyt Film Tour på Rockefeller på lørdag?

01. Oct 16:42 - SweetGirl said:
@"I-ski-like-a-girl": forgotten one thing to say, if there is a german skier in a race he´s allways in first position when you read the winning-list (think there is another word for is, but my brain is going in curves today - to much beer yesterday) from down to top. :-)))) Just jocking! Lot´s of respects for those going down and trying out the speed. Would run if i would have to do this. Allway did slalom and Giant-Slalom and was not able to do SuperG or Downhill. To fast and me not tough enough! So hurrey for all and the Germans!!!

01. Oct 16:31 - SweetGirl said:
@"I-ski-like-a-girl": Sorry, but there was one victory in Downhill: Michi Walchhofer in Gröden and HE won the downhill-worldcup. And yes, he´s the best for this, ok now it´s out: I like him. He´s a really good skiier and the only one doing a world-championship downhill race two, yes two times! So cool enough for me, even if i believe that Aksel is able to do so too! And about the Germans: ahm, well, you know, i, yes, but, really,oh, ok, hmmm, hu, good question..........! Is there a racer in downhill left, or did everybody stop? Haven´t recognized one last year, and Neureuter isn´t that good in Slalom. But maybe this season? And you´re absolutly right about that austrian slalom thing! I think it´s good to have more drivers to be able to win in each disceplin then a few years ago only a handfull of them. It makes the thing more interesting and i wish everybody the best (ok, not everybody, but nearly, and nobody should be hurt - no voodoo!) The best should win!!!! Even if it maybe a german?

@Longstockings - Thank you for caring, sweetie! I have actually seen that movie (the version with Audrey Hepburn!) It is a great classic movie! Have you seen The Notebook? (love it, love it, love it!!)

Oh, and yes... Painkillers are my friend! (so that's where the pink elephants came from....) And my inflateble buttocks (another one!) ring.... It looks ridiculous but sitting without it is not really an option ;-)

Few things before I'm off to put on my face for work:

@A. and Annika: thank you for asking for my own blog, but tell me, why would I want to bother with all that hassle and pressure, when I can come and be funny right here on Aksel's? haha

@Milla: I feel for you, so here's another movie suggestion: Sabrina. There's two versions, the old one with Audrey Hepburn is the better one. I think there's something in that movie that'll go perfectly with your current state. Besides, it's a brilliant movie.

30. Sep 21:57 - *I-ski-like-a-girl* said:
@Sweet Girl: I kinda like your patriotism regarding the austrian downhill monopole;-) B U T there were how many austrian dowhnill victories last season? One or two. I only remember Klaus Kröll winning in Kitzbuhel which was absolutely fantastic, though. Ah and there was Herman Maier in Lake Louise, or was it a Super G?!?
Don't get me wrong, don't wanna be mean, but I would rather propose Slalom being the new austrian-favourites discipline. Yeah I have to admit that you have by far the best slalom specialists in the world. And It's not only a single but at least three of 'em. I even have to admit that I'm a huge supporter of Benni Raich. He's fabulous, very fair sportsman and one of the very few skiers always able to win.
Aksel should know him pretty well from last year's Overall hehe....

But who cares as long as everyone stays healthy and is respectful. Only one last favour Sweet Girl: Pleeaaasse don't start teasing me which german male skiers and their absolutely breathtaking results ;-)))))

30. Sep 18:49 - Longstockings said:
@Annika: It was my pleasure. :)

@Milla: Ouch! No jokes. After 6 years of figure skating I've fallen on my behind (there's another one!) many enough times to know exactly how excruciating the pain is when you break your tail bone. Get well soon! Now, repeat after me: Pain killers are good. Pain killers are my friends. Pain killers are fun 'cause they make me see pink elephants. No? Okay, that's just me, then.

30. Sep 18:24 - SweetGirl said:
Seams to be very hard work! it´s a bit of "jump around, jump around!!!!" Keep on going, only a few weeks for the ssaison to start. Will be there! Hope the races can be done, in the moment there´s no chance to produce snow overnight. It´s a bit to warm! But there two weeks left.

Poor Lara! Bad injure! And Sandell had more luck then normal.

@Pearl: Aksel is allowed to win everything, but not downhill (Sorry Aksel, but there is somebody better then you, but just in my eyes - austrian guys!) that´s the discipline of austria. Sorry, got to keep up to my country a bit and norway is soooooooo far away :-)

@Longstockings: "Mommy" is not so bad, and to be old depense only of the need of eye-cream. Me for my part, i need a lot of it and i´m not to old! And i want to hear that about star-wars as well. That´s what i allway think about, when we are using them, but they hurt when you got hit. AU!!! Ok, i´m a girl, and i say AU before the hit offcourse!

@Aksel: have you ever tried "kinesio-taping" when you´re injured a bit? Have one on my back in the moment (coulered red and blue and green - no need of a tatoo), but it´s really great! No pain left! Really cool!

@ Longstockings- I haven't seen that movie, but I'm totally going to! (and I didn't mean old sweetie ;-)))

I actually slipped and fell down some stairs at work - and broke my tail bone (Yes, I broke my ass!) Go on.... make all the jokes you want... I've probably already heard them - twice!!

I could actually hear the bone crack (no pun intended) when I fell (the pain, the pain!) Now, I work at the hospital so I'm sure you can imagine how much fun it was to have my butt (I'm trying to come up with alternative names for it) examined by people I work with! And then, some genius decided this would be an excellent case-study for the med.students (who all look about 12 years old!) So there I was with my derrière (see!) in plain view, just praying that the fire alarm would go off or that something would happen to get all those people out of the room! No such luck!

They sent me home with lots of lovely pink happy, sleepy pills that make the pain go away, though! Hey, you should see my penguin walk! It's SOO attractive, and I guess... kinda funny.....

One last thing-about the broomstick and stuff-guess it's the matter of the simple solutions that are often the bbest, like with those trainings on the stairs. I watched a show not long ago where they laughed at the breakfast tv showing how great excercíses you can do while working in the garden, like mini squats, balance, stretching whíle picking the apples etc. it was hilarious. I know the skiers training is not that hilarious and the pillow thingies can be a nightmare-i mention the housewives excercises as the fun part- just for the record:)

What's the plan with the broomstick and the big blue pillow-thingies? Some sort of jumping thing, that'll result in falling on your face, breaking your nose and cracking a tooth? Or is that just how I'd do it (again)?

But i guess such young guys and girls have you "older" ones to look up to very much when it comes to accidents and the recovery and full comeback afterwards! And i am sure that you can give them very very much confidence.

i wouldnt worry too much about the pros in the workout training haha! I started to work out again last week after an almost 3 months break and i m constantly having this hidden - cameras - must be somewhere - feeling!!! But i guess some of the super fit ones are surely shit car drivers haha!

Oh, come on, hun! That's not fair. Way to put on some pressure. Now everyone's expecting me to be earth-shatteringly brilliant, adorable as a baby piglet, and the funniest thing since the Shiptare Boys sung 'Kosovo' (go ahead, YouTube it, I know you want to...) I had to go and bake some cupcakes just to deal with the high expectations... So if I'm forced to put on a production of Indiana Jones and the Quest for the Lost Waistline, I'm holding you personally responsible.

But it is sad to hear of these accidents. I'm used to the hockey injuries where you get 40 stitches to your face in a game and then grin at the press conference the next morning: "I guess this is the 'welcome to North Carolina' -bit!" But when someone gets hurt in skiing, it seems to always be something serious. I hope Lara gets well soon!

Recently in Villa Villekulla (aka life of Longstockings):
- I was commenting to my coworker on the difficulty of using your laptop touch pad with a band-aid on the tip of your finger. He replied:
"Yeah, I know. I've sometimes tried to play the guitar with a band-aid on my foreskin. FINGER! I mean finger!"
- a document at work that listed the tasks of one department (which basically consults to businesses):
"contact meditation" Erm... mediation, perhaps? What exactly is 'contact meditation'? Some touchy-feely form of going 'ommm...'?
- The other day I was wasting time and decided to embark on some self-study. So I did this highly intellectual, practically Freudian analysis called Which Disney Character Are You? -Facebook application.
I got Stitch. From Lilo & Stitch. STITCH?!? What?? I'm small and annoying, and not really even cute? Thanks. I'm going to need some cupcakes now.
(okay, I loved it, I adore Lilo & Stitch. Especially the San Fransisco scene, that one just cracks me up.)

I find something in english about Lara - look bad - dislocated her right hip, and for sure she miss the opening of the World Cup season . From The Associated Press. and this is link http://www.usatoday.com/sports/olympics/2009-09-29-3611850105_x.htm

Aksel - hard work - big success, I know that :))) All the best for you.

seems as if you are having a tough week's peogramme, but you'll see it'll spin away...
remember, every second you train well will get you a clear advantage over e.g. Herman Maier - who still refuses to participate in the team's training sessions - and you'll definitely pack away the Austrian guys easily.

sad to hear all those bad news - i hope they'll recover soon ...
