Kjetil on the podium

Posted on 29. January 2010 15:47 - 50 comments

I was leading after the first run, but after a bad start on the second one I didn’t have the skills or the guts to bring it home. Ted won his third straight race in Kranskja Gora and very happy about Kjetil in third place. I finished 4th, disappointing after leading, but the giant slalom form seems to be coming back. Hadn’t really practiced GS for long time when I trained this Monday to Wednesday, so happy to see the speed coming back in those tight turns after two weeks on downhill skis. New race and new chances tomorrow.

@Christin: thanks, I now will have to find it (the interview I mean), I really would like to see it;-)

Definitely not a good day for Aksel today. Better luck next time!

@Kjetil Two podiums in a row. Great!
And now Im trying to get a hold of that ARD interview. I only could watch it earlier, my lecturer would have complained if I had turned on the volume while he was teaching about symbols and semantics and stuff.

Oh My Goodness, Kjetil on the podium again! Congrats! :)

Axl, our "kul elg", don't worry! :* Btw: there are so many possibilities to take a good place... ;)

The 'little' elk is on the pod, great!

@Kjetil You've got it, gratz! Hope you can give Aksel a bit support and encouragement... ;p) he'll need it for a solid slalom run tomorrow!

30. Jan 12:59 - Christin said:
@A. ups, sorry to be so loose on that. It was Kjetil, the little elf. (not sure what this is about)
Wasmeier put Kjetil on the list for the gold medal in Olympia!

About the jackets...ones they said it was Akira Sasaki's firm which designed the jackets.

30. Jan 12:49 - A. said:
@Christin: who was interviewed in ard, Aksel or Kjetil? ;-)

30. Jan 12:48 - A. said:
whoooa, I hope Kjetil wins. Of course, all the best to Aksel, but I would like to see Kjetil happy with his first WC win, so I hope it will be 1-2 for Norway!!! the light on the course is not so good though, maybe it will get better...

Btw commentator in british eurosport mentioned the jackets! He said that Kjetil is wearing "multi-colour" jacket, "very 1980-ties"! It was actually said there!! haha

having said that: I was teased and provoked by the Atomic photo to talk about the skiing costumes, but it is over now, I built my strength back so no more mentioning the elastane;-) (I was joking about talking about it to strangers, I hope noone thought that I would actually do that! lol)

keeping my fingers crossed for the 2nd run, see you!

30. Jan 10:26 - amazon ;) said:
uiui, hva har sjedd?!? Aksel, you can attack in the 2nd run! Du klarer det! ;)

30. Jan 10:25 - Christin said:
What a run from Kjetil! And that interview on ARD was sweet and in German!

But Aksel had pretty bad run. Looked totally of the line. No confidence.
All the bibs after Aksel have problems so the second run could only be better.

30. Jan 10:08 - angyal said:
Yay! Just found the ARD live stream in time to see Kjetil ski! And if he can go that fast in the 2nd run as well, he could get another podium.
And I really hope Aksel has a better 2nd run.

30. Jan 09:23 - Longstockings said:
@A.: haha. not.

@Aksel: hun, not to go all snippety and schoolmarmish on you, but the all-caps headlines are a tad difficult to read, 'cause the letters blur together more than if it's just partially caps. Oh, and enjoy the race today!!

30. Jan 00:32 - angyal said:
well, then we'll not only cross our fingers for Aksel skiing great but also for eurosport not to change their schedule^^

30. Jan 00:26 - Muckl said:
@angyal: Hm, well I didn?t see it yet because when Eurosport was supposed to show it, it had been cancelled. So, I am looking forward to next weekend.

29. Jan 23:19 - angyal said:
oh rerun of breaking the ice?
I only have a record of the second part, so it would be nice to see the first one

@A. I can imagine that some people would give you rather weird looks if you randomly started to talk about spandex^^

Great work today aksel:)
Too bad you didn't get first place. But i am really happy for Kjetil, he deserved it! :D

29. Jan 21:22 - Muckl said:
If someone is interested in breaking the ice, it will be shown on 6th of Feb at 14:45 or on 7th of Feb at 17:30 on Eurosport (if it is not cancelled again)

29. Jan 21:05 - p;) said:
@Kjetil Tough guy, congratulation for your 3rd place! ;p)

Ok Aksel, at least 4th. "...didn't have... the guts..." Oh no, come on! I'm sure you live to see some other shiny days. ;p)

29. Jan 21:01 - A. said:
naughty, naughty Longstockings! ;-) and I already told you, this K dude is a doll anyway, you never know what it all might result in, just sayin';-)

Re tennis: of course, as tennis is IMO one of the best sports ever, I have to tell you that it is great for relaxing. Both playin and/or watching. No jokes about the balls intended;-)

yeah, I am off to the party. Almost all strangers will be there, so I might get talkative (I get quite talkative around strangers, I ask them questions about variety of stuff and usually people tell me everything, even more than I'd like to know). If I quote Longstockings there (in purely friendly manner of course, advertising this website), do not blame me. I only have to be careful and not talk about the fabric that the skiing outfit is made from, or better about the outfits as such. I have a feeling I might get misunderstood;-)

enough sharing personal stuff, enjoy the race tomorrow, Aksel and all of you guys!!!!! xxx

3th and 4th are great! I obviously have to watch the race tomorrow, whatever!
Re Cuche: Shit happens, it sounds like a classic skier`s thumb...
Good luck to all of you!

good luck for tomorrow...:))

29. Jan 19:05 - easygoing said:
Hey Aksel, conngrats on your 4th place! Hoped for a victory but shouldn't happen today. As the others in this blog have already mentioned, see the positive aspects of the race and turn it into energy for tomorrow?s race!

@twitter: yeah, Federer is definitely the best ever! (obviously, coz he's a Swiss hehe ;-) and have you seen the interview with Jim Courier after the match when Federer was talking about his "training techniques"? "it's all talent , just sitting on the couch and take care of the kids" haha
maybe that's the secret of his success... and why shouldn't be that successful in skiing as well? haha :)

29. Jan 18:58 - justi said:
Congratulations to you and Kjetil! You both were awesome today. Good job, Vikings! ;)
Thanks for the big emotions! :)

29. Jan 18:51 - Longstockings said:
@Milla: I know!! And as for K and me, I have absolutely no idea. Facebook? All his friends and family already know me as "the girl you're mean to on Facebook" haha Maybe I could get some divorce counseling?

Yeah, forgot to say that earlier 'cause Milla's dirty mind disturbed me. Sorry to hear about Cuche's accident. Hopefully he'll be okay soon!

29. Jan 18:39 - Milla said:
@Longstockings: Good God woman! That IS disturbing! Go wash that dirty mind of yours out with soap! :-)) Aww... What on earth would you and K ever do without eachother?!

Sorry to hear about Cuche! Hope he'll be ok for the Olympics!

29. Jan 18:28 - m said:
Aksel, you must be really disappointed when you write this at 17:20. I believe, tomorrow?s race will be better because I don?t dare to write anything cheeky now. Be fast and careful !

Good luck! Viel Glück! Lykke tyl! :)

29. Jan 18:26 - Christin said:
Being disappointed is definitely your right. The first run looked really good, so I do understand you're reaction after the second one. But you should not forget: you have been the best in the middle-section, the first run was clear. And I'm sure Marius will tell you what went wrong in the second and you also know it, so there are things to do better tomorrow. You'll have the chance to "correct" the result from today. As already said, better be fourth now then during the Olympics. *always look on the bright side of life*

@A. : you'll think it's gonna be a good idea if Kjetil and Aksel have to bells? I guess it's not gonna be a good ending for those who stay in the same hotel as the guys *gg*

About Cuche: thank God it's "only" the thumb! The crash looked bad. So I guess he can live with a broken thumb more than a crashed knee.
And the Canadian team lost again a member on the women's race. It's absolutely sad that it happens to the Canadians this season.

29. Jan 18:25 - Longstockings said:
Warning, this might be long... But first... drum-roll, please... I have a legitimate, on-topic, ski-related question! And I thought of it all my myself! I'm feeling mighty proud...

@Aksel: you said you're disappointed with your second run. How do you usually go about it, do you watch videos and go over every move you made, every line you took (how's that for serious ski jargon, eh??) and analyze and discuss it over till it's all chewed up, or do you find it easy to shrug it off and turn your focus to the next day and next race? Also (I'm so on a roll here), you said you "didn't have the skills or the guts to bring it home", what do mean? Did you play it safe or..?

@Milla: Aww, I'm flattered. And at first I thought you were going to say you're no expert on sucking monkey balls. Which would have been... erm, disturbing. Not as disturbing as if you'd actually been an expert in that, of course, but... I'll shut up now.

Oh, except that you know what? I was just informed that my coworker K and I have evolved into an old married couple. haha Of course, a little later when he was explaining how they do, against all presumption, do have hills where he lives, I had to ask "erm, honey, are you sure they're not speed-bumps?"

29. Jan 18:22 - manca said:
Aksel, I imagine the 4th place is a bit disappointing in the first moment as of course leading after 1st run gives you very high hopes. But as you said, it is all a very positive sign that your GS form is very strong and I am sure you will prove that tomorrow again. And I know I will be cheering there for you just as much as I was today:))

29. Jan 18:22 - Slovenian girl said:
Hey Aksel! I don't know what to say.. what a pity! However, congratulations for the excellent 1st run! Can I just give you a *sweet kiss* and *hearty hug* to console you? :-) That must be really bad feeling to be 4th after leading 1st run. I'm so so sorry for you. But now I know that crossed fingers during your first run helped a lot, even though I couldn't watch the race in live but it was lively present in my mind. I almost broke my fingers.. haha! Today I wished that there would be only one run. Put that behind you, make it sure to pass it very quickly! I'm glad that Podkoren slope suits you, that means you have a great chance to put all the others behind you on tomorrow's GS! Let's do that! Cheer up! Read some of ours funny (almost not to say "stupid" :-)) comments here on blog, there are plenty of them!

I'll break my fingers.. oops! :-) Cross my fingers for a bib 7 tomorrow! :-)
Good luck to you!

@twitter Whenever Federer plays I pity the poor guy on the other side of the net. They usually get crushed without Federer even looking like he has to work hard for it.

@Milla: what does it mean, what do you do with the bell? Of course you keep it and organise the parties when you put it upside down and put the chips inside, or ice to cool the beer! It also can be a rocking necklace, hip hop style etc. I love those bells! Kjetil now has two, he can lend Aksel one -that can be a good news of the day! ;-)

29. Jan 17:43 - A. said:
nooo, the broken thumb! As I said previously, Didier Cuche is a tough cookie, I am sure that will not stop him! Do not get me wrong, I know that it's not his website;-), but one cannot not appreciate him as a skier and it is always good for the competition when the best guys are in the top form, so I do hope he will be fine soon.

about the 4th place - well, it's not bad for me, but of course that does not make things better. If a person is dissapointed in himself, noone else can help, really. Let's see some positives - dissapointment can be easily turned into energy and focus for the next races. Plus at least you know you were the fastest guy in the 1st run, with the fastest splits all the way down, if I remember correctly. Good luck for tomorrow!

and please tell Kjetil that he should have his blog, so I could comment on his picture with Adelboden bell!!!!

29. Jan 17:42 - Annette said:
he aksel don`t worry , for me you are the best anyway ;-)
i wish you good luck for tomorrow !!!!

29. Jan 17:35 - angyal said:
SO the thumb's really broken?
That sucks. Big time.
To be honest I think it's far better to not risk everything and come in fourth than to risk everything and break your thumb a few weeks before the Olympics...

29. Jan 17:34 - Milla said:
@Aksel: Ouch! To quote Ms. Stockings "That sucks monkey balls"!!! Granted, I'm no expert, but I thought you skied awesome! You'll get 'em tomorrow! To look on the brighter side of things (ya always have to see the bright side!), at least now you don't have to lug around that HUGE bell! See that's something! I'm trying my darndest to cheer you up here.... How about a joke? A co-worker of mine left this on my desk this morning. It made me laugh! Hope you will too ;-))

A man, who smelled like a distillery, flopped down on a subway seat next to a priest. The man's tie was stained, his face was plastered with red lipstick, and a half-empty bottle of gin was sticking out of his torn coat pocket. He opened his newspaper and
began reading.
After a few minutes the disheveled man turned to the priest and said, "Say, Father, what causes arthritis?"
"Mister, it's caused by loose living, being with cheap wicked women, too much alcohol, and a contempt for your fellow man."
"Well, I'll be damned," the drunk muttered, returning to his paper.
The priest, thinking about what he had said, nudged the man and apologized.
"I'm very sorry, I didn't mean to come on so strong. How long have you had arthritis?"
"I don't have it, Father. I was just reading that the Pope does."

As for Kjetil, well done! Could you tell us, what does one actually do with a bell like that?!?! Haha

29. Jan 17:20 - Aksel said:
@Switzerland. Thanks for bidding!!

And ofcourse 4th is not too bad. But I disappointed myself in the second run. And that suck, but it passes...

Just spoke to Didier. He broke his thumb today oin the crash. He just left our hotel to get it fixed so he's 100% for Vancouver

thumbs up Kjetil!!!!!!!!!!!!

Right attitude Aksel - new race new day new chance tomorrow! 4th isnt too bad after all.
We have a saying here which goes something like "more things have been sat out than ran into"
And that is well true.

I will throw my comp out any minute now!! Sorry for that.....
yet tomorrow is another day!! Happy for Kjetil and also good to know that you are back on track.....
I lost my bet and now I have to go to the movies with my kids and watch Alvin and the chipmunks 2, what a punishment for me hahaha

Aksel congratulations! It was a really great 1th run!! Hope you are not to much disappointed. Tomorrow is a new day :-)
How you can hold one's nerve, if you are Leader after the 1th run... its a mystery to me...It must be very difficult.. So my nerves were at the border area before you start the 2th run! But i guess exactly to handle this, you must be a Champ like you are!
All the best for tomorrow Aksel, and whatever "you are the man"
