Just landed at Evenes airport close to Narvik. Ocean, fjords, mountains and snow. Looks beautiful! Met up with Kjetil and Lars at the airport and I'm looking forward to skiing with the rest of "alpine Norway". Skiing the world-cup you dont see anyone else from Norway but a few guys.

I doubt that the pictures are from Aksel's own room, they are from a spare room in his dad's house. Somewhere he's allowed to throw his things because it's not used for anything special. Looks like a place for some exercise equipment atoo.

@ Jen Thanks for all your trouble making the composite movie about Aksel. What a wonderful file to have on the computer! ! ! :) The only way for me to access it was to copy and paste the URL to my google document and then click on that link. Don't know why that was but to copy and paste directly from here to the browser found me at a search page. I cannot believe how quicly YouTube took down your video. Thanks for trying that route.

@pineapplestar Thanks for the link on your YouTube channel. I was able to catch the videos and it was great not having to watch a commercial on nbcolympics just to see the video....:)

@cjal Great tutorial on the browser settings. I had figured it out but was a little leary of trying it for fear of screwing up something I couldn't correct...lol...now I know I have you if I need further assistance.....hehe

This is from @Kate, a few posts down. Hope it helps.

The races at Narvik are FIS sanctioned, so the results will be on the FIS website, though unlikely to be live or updated quickly. You can also see results on the Narvik Skiing Club website:

http://www.nsk.no/resultater.asp

FYI, gjennomkjøring is training. They had two training days, but most of the top skiers only did the second training run, which is all that's needed to do the downhill. I think only the DH and SG are actual FIS races, while the others are just national championship races. Not that FIS points matter for the top skiers, though they might be for skiers trying to move up the ranks for the 2010-2011 season.

@Buckeye Gal and Kirsten~PA: if you want to see the video you have to use a Canadian proxy server.
ok, let's give the blog another direction and have a tutorial how to change a server proxy.

InternetExplorer: click *Tools* then click *Intenet Options* select *Connections*-tab and then click *LAN Settings*. Next activate *Use a proxy server for your LAN*. Type the adress in *Adress*-box (64.15.136.94) an type the port in *Port*-box (3128). Next click *Ok* (in both windows) to confirm.
(To remove: follow same instruction and deactivate checkbox *Use a proxy server for your LAN*. It's not necessary to remove entries)

FireFox: click *Tools* and then click *Options...*. Click button *Advanced* switch to *Network*-tab and click *Settings...*. Activate Option *Manual proxy configuration* Type in adress and port an activate checkbox *Use this proxy for all protocols* and confirm with ok.
(Remove proxy: follow same instruction and set option to *Direct connection to the Internet*.)

I hope this is helpful for you. At the moment, this proxy seems to have timeouts. That's a problem with proxy server...you can't use them once and forever. Maybe it will work again later. Or I will check another later.

Thunderstruck is one of my favorites. Nice Job!

BTW, great job on finding the Canadian proxy address for us to finally view the miracle bodies piece. I LOVED IT!!! It totally blew me away (much better than I even expected), and I didn't experience any disruptions with the connection at all... it ran straight through for me, so thank you!!!

There is some serious talent here on Aksel's online community... it's like a miniaturized version of the UN. Maybe we can collectively start solving some of the world's problems? The first line of business could be getting alpine ski racing to the North Koreans... wouldn't they love that? With yours and Jen's computer skills, I have every confidence that you two could pull it off :) Thanks again!

18. Mar 04:33 - Kristen ~ PA said:
@Jen NE US - Awesome job on the videos! They are both SWEET!! Thunderstruck totally rocks! I love AC/DC and that song is so fitting for that run. You put a lot of time an effort into creating both of them and it surely is appreciated...it's really nice to have a compilation of Aksel's Olympics. :-) I agree with @Kelly...you should post Thunderstruck on youtube!

Great job! Thanks again!! xoxo

18. Mar 04:20 - Kelly said:
@ Jen NE-US

I'm sure Aksel is counting sheep right now since it's the middle of the night for all of them, but here's what he likes from his Q&A section:

AC/DC, Guns n' Roses, Kanye West; jay-Z, Dr Dre, Snoop, Biggie, Pink Floyd, Bruce Springsteen, Big Bang, Ryan Adams, Iron Maiden, U2, Rolling Stones, Waterboys, Neil Young, Turbo Negro... different kinds of music.

Hmmm... a lot of these performers don't have the tempo to keep up with him n downhill. GNR's song "You could be mine," is a good one for skiing. "Garden of Eden" is another fast song of theirs but it's almost annoyingly fast.

As far as which run, oh so many options for you to chose from.... good luck with that :) Haha. And nice job on Thunderstruck! Are you going to post it to youtube? I think it's deserving of it.

BTW, great job on

It does speak highly of the top Norwegian skiers, including Aksel, that they are skiing in the NCs. I'm sure they could make excuses after such a long WC/Olympic season. My guess is that few of the US Olympians will show up for the US Champs - though since the forecast for the race days has highs near 60 and lows above freezing, it might be closer to water skiing than snow skiing. Makes Whistler look downright arctic!

Hello Fellow Aksel fans around the World,

I have converted and uploaded all of the Olympic video footage of Mr. Svindal?s stellar performance into one movie. I will be making it more cool later on with editing, music and effects and stuff like that, but here is an Olympic movie montage you can watch now!

This is a very large file (420 MB) and may take a bit to download if you have a slow connection. I tried to put the files up earlier for you to view online, but it did not work for everyone, so my solution was to take the movie and put it into a compressed folder. If you download/save the file listed below, you will have all the videos in one movie file. You need to unzip/extract the folder to get to the file.

Enjoy! I know I did, I loved seeing the events again!

Thank you Aksel for being a fabulous human being and a phenomenal athlete!

Take Care and be safe and have fun this week!

Much love and respect,

hi everybody,

so much new postings...

If anybody still is interested in watching that miracle bodies story... I checked out a way to do this.
You can use a proxy from Canada (actually it works with HTTP-Proxy: 64.15.136.94 port: 3128 - you have to insert this information into your browser's settings). This will simulate that you log in from Canada.

There are commercial breaks, and sometimes the connection breaks off. You have to be patient and maybe you have to retry (I needed about 10 shots). Currently, I've seen about half. Exciting!

I hope it is understandable.

I loved Aksel's dad at the Olympics just like everyone else but I think that my favorite was the GS and watching Jansrud win the silver. I just like that kid and seeing the picture of him and Aksel as they watch for the final results is priceless. They look like big/little brother and it endeared Aksel to my heart to see him so excited for his teammate/friend. I'm so excited for Kjetil's future - watching him at the Olympics and seeing him on this website has made me a fan of his as well.

Believe it or not, from my experience, the loud noises tend to be pretty non-painful. My joints will sometimes crack whilst the trainer is working on my IT bands, but the sound is usually far more un-nerving than any physical pain. What hurts like **** is the stripping (deep massage) to break up scar tissue.

@Jen - it worked!!! I was confused because there video actually shows both the time for the clip and the total time. So I was just looking at the 4mins for the first clip. Thank you again for all your hard work!

I was thinking that I might try and work on my Norwegian/Danish skills by translating some of the Norwegian articles on Aksel. Perhaps one of the Norwegian speakers here could help fix any of my errors. That way we can get more of Aksel in print and in video!

Narvik looks gorgeous - certainly not winter here anymore. Supposed to hit 15c today, but possibly snow by the weekend. Thus begins the yearly guessing game of when to take the snow tires off...

In addition, I deeply apologize for way too many posts. This was more challenging than I thought?but sooooo fun! I sleep now.

Take Care and be safe and have fun today! Can we watch online?

Much love and respect.

Hi Aksel

Some years ago, I have had the chance to visit the Northcap. What a beautyful region. Honningsvag with this lovely, colourful houses, etc. - I love it very much !!

Norway is really a wonderful country. Back to Switzerland we were discussing with some collegues which had also been travelling to the North of Norway. We all had the same opinion, Norway is quite similar to Switzerland (Swiss Alps) but M U C H , MUCH N I C E R !!

During Summer the coulours are so intensive and bright and the special thing is the sun never stops shining ..... . To have a "sunny afternoon" until 10.00 in the evening that's just extraordinary.

Have a great time staying in your home country with all these collegues! Have fun and keep smiling.

I am looking forward to your newest pictures. The last one was very much inspiring.

Greetings & have a good race upthere in the North.

I sympathize - I never found Chinese an easy language to learn, though I was fortunate to have excellent teachers along the way. For good Japanese movies with subtitles, you can also try the Miyazaki movies. He makes the most wonderful cartoon movies which are just as much for adults as children.

Yes.. watch Japanese movies and television shows with English subtitles. Danish grammar is pretty simple as well, but spoken Danish is....eeek!. After two years of Danish classes, I could read the language OK (other than forgetting vocab), but had a very hard time understanding it. I find spoken Swedish easier to understand.

I can understand written Norwegian OK with the help of my Danish dictionary, though I am embarrassed at how much vocab I've forgotten in the last three years. I've been trying to build my Danish/Norwegian skills back up by reading Aftenposten and NRK articles about Aksel!

It's definitely worth learning some Danish/Swedish/Norwegian... the best for me was being able to read HC Andersen in Danish - there's so much more to the stories when you are reading the words he actually wrote. A lot gets lost in the translations...

17. Mar 01:21 - Mimia said:
@Nicole/Angela UK (hope that it was actually you, this is kind of starting to confuse me with all these posts):
You should definitely try to learn some Norwegian.
I think it's the Germanic language that has the easiest grammar (well, I have to exclude Dutch, because I don't know anything about Dutch, but comparing all other Germanic languages, except for maybe also Faroese^^).

Plus being a native speaker of English/knowing some English is helpful since there are indeed quite some similarities concerning vocabulary for example.
And learning Norwegian is kind of like learning one and a half and a half (yeah, that's right, two times "and a half") languages. Since being able to speak Norwegian usually also means being able to understand Swedish and it helps understand written Danish (like not every single word but enough to understand).

At least that was the case for me, just the other way round and with a little help of knowing another Germanic language, but this is going too far.... :)

I have a thing for languages (obviously), so I always have to force myself to stop talking about languages at a certain point.... So that's what I'll do now.

Know what? I was trying lo learn Norwegian but I didn't find on internet Norwegian's phonetics. And I think I need a teacher because the pronunciation seems very difficult.

@Lory, Angela UK, Viking_Sara I love languages and cultures (one of the reasons why this blog is so cool), and it's really frustrating when I meet people who do not want to learn other languages (who feel that other people should learn their language instead). But I wouldn't say that the British, the French, Americans, or any other people are the laziest. Everywhere, there are people who do not appreciate the beauty of other countries, and the world!

16. Mar 22:44 - Angela UK said:
@ Viking _ Sara & Lory

I did french at school and then again a few years ago but never got the chance to practice. When you're away they want to practice their english!!

Tried Spanish a few years ago and really struggled, just couldn't get those sounds!!

xax

16. Mar 22:38 - Viking_Sara said:
@Angela UK - agreed! So many Americans are lazy as well! I find it so amazing when so many people from other countries learn multiple languages....fluently. Living in California, I've learned some Spanish and took it in school, but it wouldn't be enough for me to get by on my own in a Spanish speaking country.

16. Mar 22:36 - Lory said:
@Angela i would disagree with you when you said that you British people are lazy when it comes to other languages.. French people are the laziest tho!

16. Mar 22:34 - Angela UK said:
@ Dana

You're English is very good!

Us Brits are very lazy when it comes to learning other languages.......it puts us to shame when so many people have English as a 2nd language and speak it very well!!

16. Mar 22:22 - Angela UK said:
@ Nicole

Thanks for that..

One of the things we used to do when we were away on one of our girly holidays was deliberately dance out of time.................it was hilarious...it is really hard to do!

We'd get into that much sometimes we'd forget where we were and we'd start doing it in the street, in supermarkets......we've done it in mountain restaurants, on skis.....

Maybe that's what we should do.........pick a perfect song to dance out ot time to!! lol

@Angela UK I would personally choose crazy songs! Something unexpected, yet hopefully, something to put a smile on people's faces!

I think a song that will always make me smile is The Beatles' "Obladi Oblada." Can't help myself...I have to dance to that song!!! :)

But I would recommend a song that just makes you smile...maybe even an old song (a song that you and your friend used to dance to but never thought you would ever hear again....you could reminisce and goof off at the same time)!!!

@A.: haha... :) of course you only hear about parties cuz some people often party a bit too much and everything is not so properly to be shown on tv, haha :) but it's always good enough for youTube :)

ok, you need to see this one, you can turn off the sound if you dislike that kind of music, but i have to admit that i love this famous Avsenik's song, every party starts and ends with that one, regardless of the year of age :)

@Aksel: room pics... woow! that's pretty messy! haha! :) funny how every single piece in room become a "coat hanger" for everything! LOL :) i must also not even think about the smell! My eyes are still in pain :) how you actually find something... :) I bet it have already happened that you packed something that was not yours... :) still laughing! Your washing machine must be pretty patient with washing all this stuffs one after another, but i'm even more curious who does the ironing thing, haha!!

@Angela: ".... give the guys a twirl before you decided what to wear???" LOL!!! :)

@Aksel: so beautiful pic from plane! if i said before my eyes are in pain when looking all that mess, now my eyes take a nice rest by this pic of a pure nature...heaven is a place on earth! :) i've already booked this year's summer trip to Sweden, so next year...Norway here i come! (of course when my budget recovers from travelling over SWE :))

Have a great time with your Norway skimates Aksel! :)

Please let me know if it works and I will go ahead and buy the software and will happily do the rest in full length.

Actually the weather being nice, I think I should go for a jog or hike and part ways with my iPhone. The sun has a tendency to motivate me.

Hey Aksel, I just love arial photos. Thank you for posting this one.
Narvik sounds like a really neat place to explore. You are far enough north to experience seeing the Northern Lights too. Cool.

All the best for the Nationals. Have fun with the boys and take lots of pictures. ;)

@ Giffy and others
The website has started running since 13. May (or 12. May). I'm not a stickler for accuracy. Every day is cause for celebration.

@ Aksel You have "romantic soul". I didn't expect it, to be honest. Have a beautiful evening.
