Checking out Vancouver

Posted on 25. February 2010 18:23 - 68 comments

Checking out Vancouver*Went down to Vancouver yesterday. The hockey game between Russia and Canada was awesome. What a crowd! The Canadians played great and the enery in the stadium was unreal. So fun! It was Acer that set me up with great tickets and i did an presentation with them after the game. Perfect to have one of your personal sponsors as a world-wide IOC partner. This way your able to do something for them also during the games. Looks like a nice day in Vancouver today, checking out the city.

@everybody
A little note on how they broadcast the Olympics in different countries. My parents watch Eurosport in Moscow and till present they've seen nothing but ski jumping. They try to switch on TV at a different time every day, and what do they always see? A guy lying on his skis and imitating a superjet. The other day they switched it on the very moment he was taking off. The third when he was landing... or slowing down... or sitting on the top and preparing... In vain did they hope to see something else of the Olympics - they've already got no more preferences, any other sport would do the trick, but that's Groundhog Day :))) One of our favourite walking paths in the nearest park is close to the Large Hill. Now my parents have to change the usual itinerary as seeing some guys training alive will certainly drive them mad :))) Believe it or not, the story is 100 % truthful.
P.S. No, our TV is OK.

I can imagine what energy was felt yesterday at the game - crowd, funs cheering their heroes...you can feel it just if you are there.
You have generous sponsors - good to hear and with those results you achieved in Vancouver you couldn't payed them back more. They must be proud to support such an excellent athlete!

Hope you enjoyed resurch of the town;))))

@Christiane: my mate, I missed you! did you at least have whisky by your bedside, poor you!I hope you feel better now!

All's good in my world, too much to begin with, no time to visit here even, but it seems Dear Mitch is well taken care of, with all those compliments. I hope he manages to keep things real, with all those obviously deserved signs of admiration, as they can be very spoiling! I will only start worrying if he stops posting the TOES PICS. LOL

and High-five to the first comment under this post, which I just read, about the curling pants, nice idea!

Apparently, I am mostly tempted by abstract, totally off-topic things and I feel intimidated with all the proposals, they ruin my theory about intellectual talks here, so for that time being, I am silent.

I would gladly explore the topic that refers to the hilarious link that someone here posted and I just read, as it refers to another side of the famous Olympic spirit - thin walls in the village and all that stuff, but it seems like it would really take the conversation into non-olympic level, so I will be good now and better go home. LOL cheers!

I'm a hockey-redactor for one team in my country and usually I go to one sometimes two or three matches by the week but sometimes I'm also surprised what happens. I like the cleverness and originality of each match :) And some days are really heart attacking and also very fascinating, dramatic and so on ;) simply I love it!

Do Norwegian athletes get paid for winning a medal at the Olympics? I'm not sure, but I heard that you don't have this "bonus". Of course, you don't need it, sponsors are generous to you.;)
Have a smooth fly home without "scary flying stories".

i think the puck might also be called "black death cookie" =) i don't watch hockey regularly, so i'm always surprised by the speed and aggression involved in that game. but it's definitely exciting to watch.

@Tony: Hi, hockey is also my thing if I can say...:) And the black stone actually isn't stone but rubber and it weighs about 163g (0,359 lb) :) And the pucks from Vancouver are made in Czech republic - at the place which is about 30 km far from my home place :)

Rules - there are several rules which also made hockey so great and also not so much dangerous.. Discover this sport - I mean it's really one of the best ;)

Aksel, you are the best! Your energy and passion is just amazing. I really love that... it's a bit like being at a concert of my favourite band (PJ). I love sports that spread out that energy - rugby is my other love. Aksel, have you ever watched a professional rugby match live? This is unbelievable too - its all about energy and passion as well... So I can imagine how it felt for you to watch Canada playing Russia in the ice hockey. Wish you all the best for the future - no accidents... thanks for entertaining me so well, great stuff! Diana

Where the h... is Longstockings??? Hockey should be her thing, as far as I know! Watching the game looks really fun. However, I`m not into the rules (if there are any???), but I`m impressed about how fast everything goes and how heavy the little black stone is (what is the English term???).

Enjoy Vancouver!

What chance to attend a hockey game Canada-Russia in an Olympic tournament. Do you think the coach of Russia Slava Bykov has been a player in the club of my city? Here is more than a legend, and his son is still here.
Aksel, will you stay in Canada until the closing ceremony?
I wish you full of fun.

Should I comment the story that I just read with you leaving the Games?
Just read that the condoms get fewer and fewer...No, I'm not commenting on that chance! ;-)

Okay, just have to mention that I predict a podium with the two of you (Kjetil and Aksel) in GS! (just read in one of the earlier blogs somewhere between these hundreds of comments). As much as I like to see you on the podium I was cheering more for Kjetil! That guy really deserves this medal! Let's see what the Vikings will show in Slalom.

Vancouver is an awesome city!!! Not as great as Toronto, but nearly (in my point of view). The people are so nice and helpful. Very relaxed. I guess you will love this city. Enjoy!
