A day off

Posted on 16. February 2010 17:35 - 74 comments

This is the view from my bedroom in Whistler right now. Heavy snowfall, so no super-combined today.(And yes, that is the silver medal). Instead I’m gonna use this day to see my family that are here to watch the games. Also my Uncle and his family came up from Minnesota. It was cool to be fast and make an exciting race for them yesterday. They were so excited when I met them after the race! That was fun. The medal ceremony was also a highlight yesterday evening. Backstage I met Marit Bjørgen who got bronze on the women’s cross-country yesterday. In my eyes she’s the best female cross-country skier in the world, but she’s as some trouble the last years. Nice to see her back on track. The Swiss were also celebrating backstage, with good reason: Gold in the downhill and in cross-country with Dario Cologna. Congrats!

@Dear Muckl: yeah, you caught me and my quads post in the Swedish Power Girl's Kitchen, hmmm. Come and join! Still thanks for remembering about me, I only want to keep my promise here;-) and now you made me really intrigued about the pic, but I have to be strong! LOL cheers!

Haha :D OMG just checked up, you can also buy the racing tricot *rofl*

18. Feb 00:16 - Muckl said:
Ladies DH?all the crashes :/ very tough but Lindsey?s performance-incredible again.

@A: hehe, racing tricots and spandex rehab *g* I read something about the quadriceps yesterday, very interesting ^^ and I totally agree with that. Hmm, let me think: should I knock on the kitchens door?!? But no problem if you dont want to talk about the spandex topic, you already mentioned the main point: tight *still_LOL*
Ah and btw you get the opportunity to buy Aksel?s (ok maybe not his own exemplar) retro jacket, did you know that? You can buy the jackets from the last seasons so I guess the colourful one will be available in a few months. Hey, if you ever have an awful day and you need something to cheer you up: Put the jacket on and listen to some great Abba songs. Wouldnt that be great?

@Slovenian girl: I am happy 2 'cause I am Slovenian 2 =); actually was crying when she came in 3rd and fell down in such horrible pain - for me it is golden bronze covered with diamonds just like she said. But my tip was good I actually got the 1st and 2nd right, so I hope my Super G bet will come true aswell. And yes Axl is a supeboy and 5ra is a super girl. Night night.

17. Feb 23:43 - Slovenian girl said:
@T., angyal, A.: Oh man!!!!! She made it!!! I'm so happy for her! :) That's our girl! Can't believe it, but it's true! Just crazy awesome!! I must not think what would happen if she wouldn't fall! I hardly watched when she crossed finish at qualification run when she crashed down and screamed so hard! So sad! Oh man, we would defenitely win a gold! I'm so proud of her, cause our country is so small, we are little and don't have many competitor at this discipline... but I always say... small but with *big heart*! :) :) Hope she will find time for breathing now, she looked really scary at finish! Just crazy, our reporter cried on TV... hehe :)
Oh, dear! She couldn't even walk alone, that's so rude! She is crazy awesome, if I say Aksel is a Superman :) then Petra is a Supergirl, hehe... ok, I'm done with my speech here? :)

Still, congratulations to all todays medalists! also ladies on DH needed to work very hard on such course, especially psychically after many falls! Amazing! :) Oh yeah, tough day! Time to go to bed, just I don't know yet how to fall asleep...!? :) good night...

17. Feb 23:14 - A. (a girl looking for a dress in pattern like Norway's curling team pants!) said:
Thanks guys for all the update about different outfits..hmmm.....Curling pants rock rock rock!!! If those guys will have their own FB page I will sign up for it, even though I am not such a fan of FB (makes people stalk!)

About the "racing tricots": I have no idea what pic are you talking about Muckl, honestly!!!!
I am on a "writing about spandex rehab" and I am not falling off the wagon, so please forgive that I will not go into this, at least today! ( I can only imagine how sensational the photo must be and I really appreciate that you thought about me seeing skiers (?) wearing tight outfits, thanks!!!! LOL)

The ladies dh was cool, but apart from the medalists the runs were not as sensational as in the guy's race, where more skiers had exciting cool runs and the whole race was almost fall-free and more good-looking. And all those falls, especially Anja's! I did not like that at all, I hope all of them are ok, because those falls looked nasty, I had shivers! But the great story with Lindsey catching the gold, she's amazing, and Julia with silver. They have totally different styles of skiing though, and different season-situations, but it's great when you can see that people with different styles and approaches can both suceed and be fast!

@Slovenian Girl: horrible thing about Petra, she managed to get bronze though, but she looked terrifying in the finish> Sport can be so cruel, so many sacrifices and hard work and baam, you fall on the training and in a second everything is different. I hope she will be ok.
On the lighter note, there's a gold for Norway, cool;-)

17. Feb 22:59 - angyal said:
1st gold for Norway! And Petra Majdic got a medal in the end. Wow!

I'm really looking forward to the curling match between Norway and Germany. I'll finally be able to get a real good look at the pants on TV^^

17. Feb 22:46 - T. said:
@ A. btw there are already over 1800 comments on Norwegian curling team's pants on the official FB Vancouver 2010 page. Unbeliavable....but the pants are hot no matter what hahahaha

@Slovenian girl - and Petra did it, she made it to the finals, but my tip is Bjoergen, Kowalczyk, Olsson.....

17. Feb 22:34 - T. said:
@ Slovenian girl: yeah unbelieavable how many mistakes were done already at this olympics. I was not really paying attention to cross country when the guy on TV started to talk about Petra's accident and then I was like what the hell....and could not believe what I saw. But hats off to Petra she did gr8 in quarterfinals although I don't think she will be able to get enough strength for semi finals. It was obvious that she is in gr8 pain. But thumbs up, you never know.....
and Aksel I'll be hoping for the "heart of gold" at the Super G......

17. Feb 22:17 - Slovenian girl said:
Oh yes, yes...this pic with *shining silver medal* looks realy nice :) I believe that its sweet touch around of your neck Aksel must be damn good feeling! Just keep going on with an exciting olympic spirit!!! :) Have fun in these days of waiting for races!

@T.: Oh dear! I also watched ladies DH! I would say...pretty crazy, such things with so many falls should not happen. There were spreading some rumours that the course is too tough for girls, strange and scary... Today is kinda weird day, cause also our the best cross-country competitor Petra Majdi?, who is fighting for medal, fell on training just before race into hole by course. Damn, really unpleasant hapening! I'm so sorry for her, cause she is really in the best shape at this time, she was trying so hard for all these years... But however I just hope that there won't be no more falls on races, cause such things really kills an olympic spirit!

Hey, if you dont want to keep your first Olympic medal (open window, tztz), Ill take it :D
+ your silver medal needs some golden companions *smirk* (the medal feels so alone lying on the windowsill there)

Enjoy the day off with your family (oh, its over-new day). I could see the heavy snowfall on TV yesterday, OMG, kind of X-mas atmosphere. Did you spend some time outside for outdoor activities like ?walking in the winter wonderland??

Finally I got that picture I/we was/were waiting for: Aksel on the podium. (Believe in yourself everyday!)

@A: I had a look on a really, really, r-e-a-l-l-y hilarious picture concerning spandex and the DH winners *LOL*

@Mayumi Well-spoken. Yes, we all are so devoted... ask me why from time to time. It's his grace I think.

@Kristyna You know all the ice-disciplines take place in Vancouver, 4 to 5 hours sitting in the car to get there and to come back could be exhausted. To stay in Whistler, where the likewise interesting snowsports are hold and norwegian and other interesting athletes take part in is the better choice would say. On a day off you try to relax and to regenerate. Well, I would stay in Whistler. :p)

@A. Thanks for the updated schedule. Thought the SC is on friday (with slalom run in the wood through the trees), GS on sunday because the sun will shine, GS on Monday, well, there's the new moon that gives more energy, SL wholly drops, because they can't find a way to fix the slalom poles in the slushy snow... ;p) and I heard the girls have to move to alaska...j jokes apart. It's crazy but hope all the races will fairly staged!

also, if you go to the main olympic website, you could find the link to the e-bay auction of the olympic stuff. seems interesing, but the cause is not yet mentioned, so I guess it's of commercial nature, but I am not sure yet...

as far as I know, well read, super-g stays on friday, sc is on sunday and gs on tuesday. Girls' dh is tomorrow, sc on thursday and super-g on saturday. As if any date of the race so far was 100% for sure;-)

and those "new" disciplines are crazy. They look awesomely cool, but must be so difficult, they literally go on skis/snowboards all at the same time, how they do not bump into eachother so often (relatively) is a mystery to me...

ok time to go,bye

Nice bling Aksel! ;-) but seriously - it must be cool to have a day off after such an intensive succesful downhill day, enjoy that! I guess it's a happy time, so enjoy it!

Re curling and curling outfits: oh yeah, the curling dress with pattern like the Norwegian curling team's trousers would be cool. The pants look awesome on tv, I watched part of the match. There are so many serious things in the world, that the outfits can be funny to brighten the day!

Re gold Japanese speed skaters outifits: well, they look fast, like the lightning! It's a bit too much of gold for me, but they certainly are noticeable ;-)

have a nice evening guys!

SC on friday...
God, good that pause... catch a breath! ;p) My head is spinning. I puzzle over it. Don't know, if it's the weather, the long nights or the three glasses of red wine yesterday evening. *uiui* ;p) Bet on the red wine... if you know, you have to be fit the next day, keep the handa off it. I'm still deathly tired. :p)

@A. It's a pitty, that you are not a german girl. Well, team-bulding's not possible... Just watched the curling guys and think your idea is not half bad. Some years training (10 is much too long) and you probably get the (only) chance to take part as an active athlete at the OL ;p)

Girls, don't you think, as a smart necklace silver is much more trendy. ;p))

Time for biathlon...mad rush. ;p) Have a nice evening and Aksel, enjoy your day off!
