30.000$ for a bib!!

Posted on 27. September 2009 18:01 - 47 comments

I sent one of the red bibs you get for leading/winning the World- Cup to a friend in New York. It was sold at an auction to raise money for scholarships for deserving young skiers who cannot afford to attend a school named Green Mountain Valley School (GMVS) without financial support. It raised an amazing 30.000$!!! That’s awesome. I never thought that was possible. I guess there were plenty of skiers there, it raised more than a signed tennis racquet from the US open winner.

@ Cécile and Aksel: Oh, I have to say sorry to hear that too. Dislocated hip is quite painful. Hopefully, she is getting the best medical treatment & support. I`m looking forward to see her in the World Cup again!

@ A and *I-ski-like-a-girl*: I just want to give my vote to San Fran for the funniest city ever - and where fis should bring snow to organise races, hehe:
1) Skiing & surfing at the same day - something better?
2) All the hills are waiting for the snow
3) The course will have only natural jumps
4) The cable-cars are ready to bring the skiers up again
Seriously, I was thinking about it when I walked up and down the hills for six months! Sorry, this was totally off topic - I just had to give my vote :)

@ A.: No problem ! Funniest city ever -> Las Vegas ! Lights, fun, money, crazy, hot, dangerous, gambling and kinda confusing... A city that never sleeps that definitely needs another highlight. So lets make the impossible possible. Why not a world cup over there or at least another fun event like last years in Moskow... They have the money and investors, so who cares about the money they'll need for cooling the slopes;-)))

So I'll go for Vegas!

What a nice day btw.

Longstockings dear friend, íf you say you cannot stay on topíc it means your brain workks fast-so many thoughts, right?that is the case?:))
i was at the brilliant lecture once, by the great professor, he was 85 than- he was changing the topic all the time, but always came back to the main one, he said yoú need to train your brain , so it was obviously right, taking into account he was brighter than most peoplé i know and had excellent memory.

off topic - i don't know what to write not to mention so called old usual topics:) i am vísiting a weird city now so if you néed a? off neutral topic here iyou can write about the funniest places you visited and why fis must organise races there bringing snow ?o matter what:) bye!

I also want to say that it's very heartfelt to see that in the face of such danger involved in this sport, these remarkable sportsmen's love for the sport remained unchanged as they continue to follow their dreams despite encountering these terrible accidents - displays great courage & perseverance! They are an inspiration to us all and reminds us that we should always live our life with our "Eyes Wide Open."

P/S...just needed to finish my note on something relevant....

@ Longstockings, you are never ever boring, you got me amused ever at "hello". I was bored at work earlier and was reading the Bugatti blog, wished I joined back then...anyways, I say no more, we have to be good !

29. Sep 09:25 - Longstockings said:
According to their doctor he should get out of the hospital in about five days, and eventually make full recovery. Which is good news. The story of the accident is rather disturbing to read, though.

(Thank you, Tony. It's nice to know I'm only appearing boring to myself. And no, I cannot stay on topic. I'm famous for my complete incapability of sticking to a conersations topic, ever, under any circumstances.)

29. Sep 08:47 - Tony said:
@ Longstockings. I`m sorry to hear that. Yes, hopefully he will recover soon and be fit for fight in Soelden - or at least in Levi. I will cross my fingers!

By the way, I`m in no doubt that you can stay on topic! And you should know that you are good AND fun to have around, however :)

29. Sep 06:18 - Longstockings said:
@Tony: apparently he went off and into some rocks while at practice. He suffered some internal damage; he lost a kidney and there were injuries to the spleen. The injuries to the lungs didn't need operation. That's what their doc said on the Finnish news last night.

Recently bought (and am currently reading) a book called "Giving" by ex US President Bill Clinton. Talks about what each of us, "'regardless of income, available time, age, and skills," can do to help, to give people a chance to live out their dreams.

Do keep us updated with future events like this!

Can´t believe, that under such a good topic, the people stay close to it. And it so important to help. What means a bib to you? Ok it´s a good memory, but there are children and other people in the world who need money and here they go: 30000 $! Really cool! I was the whole day thinking about this and it´s so cool! Even my headaches went away! Very well done!!!!!!

I was there and it was amazing to see someone pay a years worth of one student's tuition for your bib! You are an amazing skier and your signature on that bib is definitely worth that much money!! I hope you can come visit our school in Vermont sometime to see where the money goes.

Especially because skiing is not really big in the US! But you are such a great, outstanding athlete, so no wonder that you have fans all over the world. Do you know who bought the bib?

These young athletes for sure appreciate your effort and commitment very much ... you will be their new idol (if you are not already). :-)

27. Sep 21:04 - *E* said:
That is just amazing. You can be so proud of yourself, because it´s your impressive achievements that has made that red bib so popular. Keep on doing what you do! You are probably one of the best role models young skiers can have.

27. Sep 20:08 -
Fantastic!! By the way, it wasn't just 'a bib'... it was YOUR bib! I'm in no doubt the reason why it raised so much is because you're outstanding as an athlete, humble as a competitor, and inspiring as an idol. No one better!

Wohoo, proud to be Norwegian :-)

PS! If your friend in NY needs some more items now that your bib is gone, I have lots of little t-shirts he can have! I can sign them too... ;-)

27. Sep 20:08 - Tony said:
Oh, that moment in Lenzerheide gave me a memory for life. If you ask me, a signed tennis racquet from the US open winner is nothing compared to your red bib. Take care of the other one :)

Aksel your contribution is to an excellent cause, have you heard of Green Mtn Valley sch,? some of the premiere US racers like Rahlves attended there! Kudos to you for allowing deserving but needy individuals and opportunity to excel to a high skiing standard such as yours!!
